PA-TSA generally tries to schedule our awareness day at the Capital Building for the first week in May each year. Our main set-up and place is located in the main area of the East Wing Rotunda within the Capital Building. Families gather around 8am to receive their group assignments, materials, and meet the people they will be going around with along with their group leader. Meetings with scheduled legislators take place between 9am and 11am and generally last about 20 mins each. After meetings we invite all guests and families to the gallery seating area in the Hall of the House as PA-TSA is recognized on the floor by the Speaker of the House and we also have a resolution voted on to name May 15th-June 15th of the year as PA Tourettes Awareness Month in the Commonwealth.
All day we have videos playing and information booths set up in the East Wing Rotunda for families, visitors to the Capital and Legislators to stop by to look at and talk to us about things.
Overall the experience that you get from attending is a great day while advocating for something that either directly affects you/your family or just because you have a desire to help bring awareness to the illness.
