Educate PA Leaders who PA-TSA is
The main focus of the day in Harrisburg is to meet with both Senators and Representatives offices that have requested us to sit down with them so they can learn more about our organization and why we need their individual and collective help so that we can grow our services to reach the most amount of affected families across the Commonwealth. Our meetings with the Legislators are designed to make them aware of the impact the chronic illness has on people of not just their districts but across the entire commonwealth. We as an organization receive a line item each year in the Governor's budget and we bring it to the Leaders attention as to the pertinent need to keep it a line item in the final budget in order for PATSA to carry out its mission everyday.
Present Stories from Impacted PA Families
Many of the very families that attend the awareness day have a family member, close friend or even themselves that suffer from Tourettes. The day at the Capital meetings give Legislators direct hands on showcase of what its like to deal with this illness as many individuals show signs of Tourettes during our individual assigned meetings. Legislators love to hear and experience stories and impacts from direct individuals and it gives the individuals a way to show exactly how PA-TSA helps them make it through the day and life.
Advocate the Services/Benefits PA-TSA Provides PA Families
PA-TSA advocates on behalf of the thousands of all aged Pennsylvanian's that suffer from Tourette's day in and day out. The main advocating focus and reason we show to state officials for our line item is our ability to go directly into schools and perform presentations, group meetings, and education to the entire school so that we can prevent bullying on students with Tourette's, so that the faculty can better understand what the student is going through so they don't cause undo harm or stress on individual, and so students understand the situation to prevent undo bullying against the diagnosed individual.
